Regional Strategy

The Partnership Board is responsible for commissioning and approving a Regional Strategy which will combine work previously known as the South East Plan and the Regional Economic Strategy. Key partners in delivering the Strategy include the Government Office for the South East (GOSE), the Highways Agency, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and the Environment Agency.

Our aim is achieve this in an environmentally sustainable way and how we intend to accomplish this is contained in the Regional Sustainability Framework document.

Stage 1 - South East England Strategy Project Plan

We have produced a project plan, which sets out the process and timetable for development of the strategy, along with a community engagement strategy explaining how, and when, stakeholders and members of the public can input into the strategy development process.

Hard copies of the project plan, and community engagement strategy (or 'statement of policies on community involvement') can be inspected by appointment at the Partnership Board offices

Consultation on the draft scoping report of the sustainability appraisal is currently underway and closes on 8 April 2010. The report can be viewed on the sustainability appraisal page.

Stage 2 - Evidence gathering

We are currently gathering evidence to feed into the development of the South East England Strategy.

Key challenges for the South East

We have produced 6 discussion papers looking at the issues most important to the UK's success over the next 20 years. These were debated at two February 2010 workshops in Lingfield and Reading.

Economic growth and technological innovation - 3 MB
Climate change and a low carbon society - 10.2 MB
Funding for infrastructure and investment - 2.1 MB
Tackling housing affordability - 2.2 MB
Demographic change and an ageing population - 2.4 MB
Dealing with economic disadvantage - 10.6 MB

Evidence from local authorities

We are also asking local authorities in the South East to provide technical evidence to help us develop the South East England Strategy. More information about this process is available on request from Cath Rose (catherinerose@se-partnershipboard.org.uk)

Regional evidence base

We are continuing to update the regional evidence base for key issues that the strategy will need to cover. We will make key pieces of research available on this website.
