Challenging Perceptions of Affordable HousingChallenging Perceptions of Affordable Housing cover

First published by the Housing and Regeneration Board in the summer of 2009, this booklet is designed to dispel some of the misconceptions about affordable housing.

It addresses common objections such as the belief that affordable housing is not needed in some areas, will be of poor quality or will contribute to anti-social behaviour. Drawing on recent research and case studies, it illustrates how successful affordable housing developments can be delivered to the benefit of families and communities.

Housing Market and Land Availability Workshops, September 2009

In September 2009, a series of workshops were held in Reading and Guildford to discuss Strategic Housing Market Assessments (SHMA) and Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessments (SHLAA) in the South East. The workshops were designed to share good practice and discuss the findings of a report commissioned by the Partnership Board earlier in 2009 (the Housing Market and Land Availability Study - see below). The presentations given at the workshops and a report summarising the discussion that followed are available below:

Housing Needs of Older People, August 2009

Housing needs and aspirations of older people report coverThese two reports were prepared by the Regional Housing Forum on behalf of the (then) Regional Housing Board. The reports both consider issues associated with the housing needs of the South East's increasing numbers of older people. The first report considers how the housing needs and aspirations of older people are identified. It goes on to look at the extent to which the current range of housing products meet those needs and aspirations and at emerging options for general and specialised housing for older people. The second report looks at the current and potential use of incentive schemes and other aspects of good practice that can be adopted to assist older tenants who are 'under-occupying' social rented housing and in doing so release much needed larger homes for families.

Housing Market and Land Availability Study, July 2009

Cover of SHMA/SHLAA report - June 2009This study evaluates the South East's Strategic Housing Market Assessments (SHMAs), to assess whether they can be aggregated to provide a regional view of housing need and demand to inform the Regional Strategy, and also to assess whether Strategic Housing Market boundaries need updating. The report also takes a preliminary look at what the available Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessments (SHLAAs) reveal about potential housing land supply. The report recommendations include a number of good practice points likely to be of interest to local authorities and practitioners in producing or commissioning SHMAs and SHLAAs.
