Waste Management
The South East Plan (May 2009) contains waste policies aimed at reducing waste generation, encouraging re-use of materials, maximising recycling and recovery and minimising landfill.
A significant volume of work has been prepared to support and monitor the waste policies in the South East Plan. Further waste management research and background material is available below and in the publications and research section.
Meeting papers for the South East Regional Technical Advisory Body for Waste (SERTAB) are available in the advisory groups section.
Annual Strategic Waste Monitoring Report for South East England, 2008-09
The South East Regional Technical Advisory Body (SERTAB) has produced its first annual Strategic Waste Monitoring Report (SWMR) on progress towards delivering regional targets for waste management set out in the South East Plan. Waste Management Capacity
The South East England Partnership Board (SEEPB) and ERM Consultants have undertaken an update of the regional waste capacity and arisings model in November 2009. This is an update of the May 2009 model version and uses the most recent data for 2008/09 where available. The update involved collection of data on arisings and management capacity from the Environment Agency, Defra and the region's Waste Planning Authorities (WPAs)
The model enables monitoring of existing and planned waste management capacity at WPA level, which is then summed to provide an overall picture of waste management capacity need at regional level. It is designed to enable regular updating by WPAs to keep the data 'live' and for use in their Annual Monitoring Reports including developing the evidence base for Waste Development Documents. The model will also be used to inform the Regional Strategy (RS).
The model's data will be continuously updated and kept under review as part of the Partnership Board's commitment to a 6 monthly model revision cycle. Data updates will be requested from WPAs via SERTAB to feed into the Partnership Board's annual Regional Monitoring Report (RMR) timetable. The next data update request will be for April 30 2010.
The model generates 3 Scenarios. Scenario 1 has been adopted for monitoring purposes.
