Milton Keynes and Aylesbury Vale

Study area and brief

The study area comprises the South East Plan's defined Milton Keynes Aylesbury Vale sub-region plus High Wycombe in teh Western Corridor Blackwater Valley sub-region. The emphasis within the study area is on the strategic transport links necessary to support delivery of planned growth at the key locations of Milton Keynes (South East Strategic Development Area), Aylesbury urban area and High Wycombe.

The link between High Wycombe and the Thames Valley will primarily considered by this study, interfacing appropriately with the Thames Valley DaSTS study. At Milton Keynes the study interfaces with the already completed Milton Keynes South Midlands sub-regional transport study and the Transmodal Movements between London and West Midlands and Within MKSM DaSTS study being undertaken by the South East, East of England and East Midlands regions. There will also be interface with the Central Oxfordshire DaSTS study.

Monthly updates

Short monthly update statements will be provided to keep you informed of the study's progress.

February-April 2010

The key task completed since the January update is the draft Interim report which comprises an Executive Report and full Technical Annexe.  The draft interim report was submitted to the Regional Transport Board on 12 March 2010.

January 2010

The data review process has been completed which identified the key DaSTS challenges on delivering the planned growth within the study area. Work on identifying potential measures to address these challenges has also commenced with stakeholders.

December 2009

Work to date has focussed on understanding the baseline conditions in the study area. This included a review of the findings of previous studies and proposals in order to articulate the desired transport outcomes for the next 15 years and the key challenges of trying to accommodate the planned level of growth in housing and employment in the sub-region.  This work has also included the identification of a suitable set of 'measures of success' for gauging the extent to which transport schemes and interventions are expected to contribute towards achievement of the stated goals.

Additionally progress has been made on undertaking of a simple gap analysis to identify potential shortfalls in the planned levels of transport provision; and generation of an initial long list of transport-related interventions.

Key tasks for next month will be completion of the baseline report, the generation of scenarios based on the initial long list of interventions, to take forward for more detailed evaluation, refinement of the measures of performance and appraisal methodology and production of an outline structure for the Stage 1 Interim Report.
