Study area and brief
The study area is defined as the South East Plan's Central Oxfordshire sub-region. The areas for emphasis within the study is supporting growth in Oxford while taking into account the challenges of the step change in growth at Didcot/Science Vale and the impacts of this growth on the wider transport corridors.

February-April 2010
The key task completed since the January update is the production of the draft Interim Report for the Regional Transport Board meeting on 12 March 2010. The draft report sets out the transport challenges identified through consideration of the highway, rail, bus, cycle, pedestrian and freight networks; the strategic outcomes for the sub-region, based on economic, environmental and social challenges; and packages of measures to address the challenges.
January 2010
Work to develop the evidence base is now largely complete, with the exception of few outstanding key stakeholders meetings. Economic, social, environmental and transport challenges have been identified through analysing the evidence base. The INTRA-SIM (Integrated Transport Scenario Simulation and Appraisal) decision support tool has been used to test a number of different options which could contribute towards delivering success in Science Vale UK and the wider sub-region. These options will be used as the basis for identifying the potential transport measures needed to address the identified challenges. This work is being undertaken in close liaison with the key stakeholders.
December 2009
Work is being undertaken to build the evidence base to enable challenges to be identified and success to be defined in Central Oxfordshire, with a focus on the Science Vale UK area. The challenges are being identified through the interpretation of economic, environmental, social and transport policy, as well as through census data and model output interrogation.
Meetings are regularly being held with the team developing Oxfordshire's LTP3 to ensure consistency in approach. In addition, meetings are being held with representatives from the main employment sites in order to understand their business operations and relationships, and main aspirations for the future, to determine the role transport can play in delivering economic growth in the area. Oxfordshire's Strategic Planning and Infrastructure Partnership have also been introduced to the study and have welcomed the opportunity to be involved. Work related to key challenges and defining success will be completed by Christmas, with types of interventions identified prior to the next progress meeting in early January 2010.
